Leben in Deutschland Online Leben in Deutschland

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Leben in Deutschland Online (the “App”) does not require an account and does not send your study data to any server. The App shows ads through Google AdMob; this page explains what that involves.

Information stored on your device

To make the App useful between sessions, the following information is stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage (no cloud sync):

  • Your selected interface language and translation preferences.
  • The Bundesland (federal state) you selected.
  • Your study goal, target exam date, and reminder time (if you enable reminders).
  • Your progress: bookmarked questions, questions answered correctly or incorrectly, and counts of incorrect answers per question.
  • Theme preference (light/dark) and other interface settings.
  • Whether Remove Ads is unlocked on this device.

This information is removed when you delete the App or clear the App’s data through iOS settings.

Notifications

If you enable study reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are generated locally by the operating system on your device: no notification content is sent through any server.

Advertising

The App is free and shows ads through the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob), which may collect:

  • Your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android): on iOS only if you allow it in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. Otherwise non-personalised ads are shown.
  • IP address, coarse location derived from IP, device model, OS version, language and similar technical data.
  • Ad interaction events (impressions, clicks) used to measure ad performance and prevent fraud.

Google acts as an independent data controller for the above. See the Google Privacy Policy. In the EU/UK, ad personalisation is gated behind a consent prompt, and you can change your choice any time in the app under Settings, Ad privacy options. You can change the tracking permission at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, Tracking, or reset your advertising ID in your Android settings.

In-app purchases

The App offers one optional one-time purchase, Remove Ads. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), and we never receive your payment details. When the App opens, it asks the store whether your Apple ID or Google account owns Remove Ads, so the purchase is restored after a reinstall or on another device. The answer is kept on your device and is not sent to us.

Analytics and crash reports

The App uses Google Firebase for analytics, performance and crash reports. This includes how the App is used, how ads perform, purchase history for Remove Ads, performance data, crash data and other diagnostic data. We use this only to keep the App working and improve it, not to identify you.

Website analytics

Our question website at lebenindeutschland.teklabs.xyz uses Google Analytics to see how the site is used. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner; if you decline, visits are counted anonymously without cookies. You can change your choice anytime via the cookie settings link in the site footer.

Data we (the developer) do not collect

We do not ask for and do not receive your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, precise location, or payment details. We do not sell data. The third parties that receive data through the App are Google (AdMob for ads, Firebase for analytics and crash reports), as described above, and Apple or Google, which process in-app purchase payments.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. Because the App displays third-party ads, we do not knowingly enable ad personalisation for users under 13.

Third-party content

The question catalogue is the official BAMF catalogue for the “Leben in Deutschland” / Einbürgerungstest. The App is not affiliated with or endorsed by BAMF. Coats of arms for each Bundesland are sourced from Wikimedia Commons.
